Sessions on Sissoo can give you time and space to grieve, with someone who listens.

What people book

  • Counselling and psychotherapy: talk about your loss at your own pace.
  • Loving-kindness meditation: be gentle with yourself.
  • Reiki: a quiet, restful session.
  • 1:1 spiritual guidance: explore meaning after a loss.

How it works

Sessions take place online or in person, in your language. Each practitioner shows their price and next free time on the booking page. Some offer a free intro call, so you can ask questions first.

What the research says

Grief is a normal response to loss, and for most people it eases with time. Talk to people you trust, eat regularly and keep active. Most people who are grieving need support from those around them, not routine therapy or sleeping tablets. NHS, 2026 · WHO, 2013

  • Counselling: one way to get support. Studies have not shown that routine counselling helps everyone who is grieving; it may matter more when grief is not easing. Limited evidence · NHS, 2026 · WHO, 2013
  • Mindfulness, yoga and relaxation: not studied for grief itself. They have some evidence for stress and low mood, which often come with grief. Limited evidence · NCCIH, 2022
  • Reiki: no reliable studies show it helps grief or any health problem. Some people find a quiet session restful. No good evidence yet · NCCIH, 2018

When to talk to a doctor

If grief feels unbearable, or stops you eating or sleeping for a long time, talk to your doctor. If you think about ending your life, call your local emergency number now. Low mood that lasts more than 2 weeks is also a reason to talk to your doctor.
