Chiropractics
Chiropractics was founded in the United States by D.D. Palmer who, inspired by the founder of Osteopathy, developed a spine-centred approach that uses manipulative techniques to the spine. This is to help restore a more adequate nerve supply to the rest of the body. Treatments are frequent and tend to focus more on spinal alignment and less on other areas of the body. Some Chiropractors also look at the musculoskeletal system at large and manipulate other joints and relax soft tissues using their hands. Chiropractics is a primary healthcare profession, so practitioners form diagnoses and may offer health and lifestyle recommendations. While they work outside of national healthcare, they do on occasion refer the patient to a medical practitioner. Specific chiropractic support can be offered to a variety of ages and conditions to support better musculoskeletal balance.
