Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is a gentle practise, particularly suitable for those people with reduced mobility, for elderly people or as rehabilitation for those recovering from illness or accidents. The practice of asanas (postures) are each held for longer than in conventional yoga as exercise classes, often with the support of props such as folded blankets, to relax the body, reduce stress, and often to prepare for pranayama (breathing meditation). Gentle stretching exercises may also be incorporated. An experienced practitioner will be able to modify asanas if needed, allowing the yoga to be practised using a chair or even from a bed. If practised regularly, with careful practitioner support, the restorative effects of this yoga can offer significant benefits physically, mentally and emotionally.
