Pilates
Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates. It is a form of mind-body exercise and movement which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core muscles and stability. Pilates movement trains the body as an integrated whole, encouraging flexibility and healthy posture. Similar to Yoga, Pilates sessions encourage balanced muscle development and an increased range of motion for the joints. With an awareness placed on the breath during movement and accuracy of posture, Pilates also engages the mind as part of the practice.
