Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa is a style of yoga which connects the movement between postures (asanas) together so that you move from one to another seamlessly, supported by your breath. It is often referred to as 'flow' yoga. You may hear the term Ashtanga yoga used interchangeably with Vinyasa, though there are similarities, the two practices are different. In modern yoga, a 'vinyasa' is a smooth transition between asanas. Classes offer a variety of postures and no two classes are ever alike. Unlike as in Ashtanga, the variable nature of asana sequences practiced in Vinyasa Yoga helps to develop a more balanced body as well as to prevent repetitive motion injuries that can happen if you are always doing the same movements every day. This way of practice can also encourage a more flexible mind. As a philosophy, Vinyasa recognises the temporary nature of 'being'. We enter into a posture, are there for a while and then leave. In this way Vinyasa practise is supportive of encouraging mindfulness.
