Iyengar Yoga
Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar was an Indian teacher of yoga and an author. He is founder of the style of yoga known as Iyengar and is considered by some as one of the foremost yoga gurus in the world. Iyengar Yoga is a form of yoga as exercise that has an emphasis on detail and precision of yoga postures (asanas). Postures are 'held' for some time, allowing a person to sink into the feeling of each posture within the body, giving space for slow, careful alignment. Iyengar often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in assisting and supporting a person to receive optimum benefit from each posture. Iyengar Yoga integrates the body, mind and emotions, so providing balance to a persons' whole being as a foundation to spiritual practice.
