Meditation
Nurturing a quiet space in the mind. Meditation is a practise of the mind, using varying techniques, where an individual trains their attention and awareness to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally stable state. The experience of meditation is a very unique and personal one. The techniques may involve using the breath in a certain rhythm, or focussing on objects and words, whilst allowing other ‘busy’ thoughts to simply enter and leave the mind as you focus. It is a journey of self discovery, within which it is the journey that is important, rather than the destination. Whichever techniques, ways, systems of belief or tools a person chooses to meditate with, the practise of meditating has immediate and long term benefits. The positive effects of meditation can be felt physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Practising meditation promotes focus, inner peace, compassion, self love, emotional stability and calmness. It also helps with stress reduction, increases relaxation and leads to a heightened state of awareness. On a physical level, meditation has been proven to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, decrease pain, ease symptoms of depression and improve sleep. With the ability to be more present and in the ‘here and now’, a person who practises meditation can expect to feel a healthier sense of perspective, whilst developing their connection to ‘self’ and their infinite inner consciousness.
