Mantra
Mantra meditation is prominent in many teachings, including Hindu and Buddhist traditions. This type of meditation uses a repetitive sound to clear the mind. It can be a word, phrase, or sound, such as the sound “Om.” You can speak your mantra out loud or quietly in your mind. After chanting the mantra for some time, you’ll be more alert and in tune with your environment. This allows you to experience deeper levels of awareness and strengthens connection to self. Equally, you can set an intention by the words you choose for your repeating mantra in order to assist you with a particular problem or emotion that may be troubling you. For example “I am safe”, or “I am abundant in wealth and health”. Some people enjoy mantra meditation because they find it easier to focus on a word than on their breath. This is also a good practice for people who don’t find it comfortable to sit in silence and enjoy repetition.
