Biofeedback
Biofeedback, also called sensory feedback, is a therapy that teaches people how to control involuntary bodily functions such as muscle tension, pain, body temperature, and brain waves through cognitive control methods. The client is connected to a device that monitors breathing, heart rate, or blood pressure to help the client understand their physiology in order to control these bodily functions consciously. After accessing how the physical body reacts to stress stimulus, the client is taught methods to control their reactions such as deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, guided visualisation, or progressive muscle relaxation. Biofeedback can help anxiety, chronic pain, seizures, migraines, ADHD, incontinence, and high blood pressure.
