CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is a talking therapy in which a trained therapist helps you change unhelpful thoughts and habits. You work on problems you face now, usually over 5 to 15 sessions, and practise skills between them. It is based on the idea that how we interpret events affects how we feel and act. CBT has good evidence for low mood, anxiety, poor sleep and hot flushes, and some evidence for long-term pain, IBS and stress: see “CBT: what the research says”.
