Ayurvedic Medicine
Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world's oldest holistic medical systems. According to the Ayurvedic medicine principles, we are made up of the basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water, and earth. In the human body, these elements combine to form three life forces, known as doshas. Every dosha controls a different body function. Everyone inherits a unique mix of the three doshas, but usually, one of them is dominant. In Ayurvedic Medicine, health and wellness depend on all our three doshas working in harmony. The Ayurvedic medicine approach is a holistic one, and interventions will aim at targeting not only the body, but also the mind and spirit. Ayurvedic practitioners are trained to assess your unique physical and emotional makeup, and the balance between the three doshas. With this knowledge about your body type, they design personalised treatment plans that address any imbalance in your life forces, and allow for your body functions to work in harmony, thus improving energy, health and wellbeing, and preventing potential disease. Your ayurvedic health plan will include herbal medicinal remedies and dietary recommendations. These will be based on your body type, so you know which herbal remedies to take, which foods and food groups you should focus on, and which should be reduced in your diet, or best avoided. You may also be given some guidance on how to best prepare certain foods, and when to eat them, as well as suggestions on lifestyle, such as practicing yoga and meditating.
